Since the catastrophic earthquake which struck Haiti in January 2010, the Emmanuel TV Earthquake Relief Team have gathered teams of medical staff and other professionals from various countries across the globe to aid in the relief effort. On their arrival in Haiti, Emmanuel TV with the help of Emmanuel TV Partners set up a field hospital called Clinique Emmanuel in Arcahaie – a town just North of Port-au-Prince where the earthquake struck. So far, doctors, nurses and other professionals representing different nations around the world such as the UK, USA, South Africa, Australia, Greece and the Bahamas, have been answering the call from EMTV to help the people of Haiti. They have offered their time, skills, and services to help make a tangible difference in the lives of many who are in need of help. The presence of a medical clinic in Arachaie, a town which when the earthquake struck was without a hospital is a great relief to the people there. Months after the catastrophe, doctors and nurses at Clinique Emmanuel are still treating victims of the earthquake and many others who continue to flood in to the clinic. Clinique Emmanuel has a vast medical stock donated and frequently replenished by the Emmanuel TV Partners. This has enabled the medical team to treat many people suffering from different sicknesses ranging from diarrhoea and dysentery to open wounds and also to perform minor operations. Numerous babies have also been born in Clinique Emmanuel with the aid of the relief doctors and midwives who have formed part of the Relief Team. Apart from establishing Clinique Emmanuel to provide primary health care in Arachaie, Emmanuel TV is helping other organisations in different parts of Haiti to distribute aid, tents and educational items. With Haiti now in the rainy season, the provision of proper shelter has become a major issue as the majority of those affected by the earthquake are living under improvised coverings like bed sheets held up with sticks. The Emmanuel TV Haiti Earthquake Relief Team have been working with aid organisations such as ‘Shelter Box’ and OIM, visiting different orphanages and refugee camps around Haiti providing aid, large tents and medical care as well as educational supplies for the children. Another organisation that the EMTV team have lent their support to is ‘Love A Child Earthquake Relief Centre’ in Fond Parisien, Haiti to which many earthquake victims have been transferred from Port-au-Prince to receive follow-up treatment. Each day, people continue to come to Clinique Emmanuel in need of medical attention, of advice, of someone who cares.
